Senior Warden
Pat MacKenzie made the announcement that
a new Rector has been called to an
enthusiastic congregation at weekend services on
Saturday, May 29th and Sunday, May 30th.
The Reverend Benjamin T.S. Phillips will
assume his new duties on August 2, 2010.
Here are a few
words of greeting from our new Rector:
It is with great joy
that I have accepted the call by the
Vestry to be the next Rector of St.
George’s Episcopal Church.
I am coming to St.
George’s from Houston, TX, where I have
served for the last four years as an
Assistant Rector at one of the largest
Episcopal churches in the country. My
passion is teaching and preaching and
engaging people with the Gospel of Jesus
Christ to bear the fruit of a lively
faith. I also bring a depth of
experience in youth ministry, both
having been a youth minister and also
serving as the clergy supervisor of a
multi-staff youth ministry team in
Houston. Over the last ten years I have
had the opportunity of doing mission
work in Uganda, Spain, and Mexico.
I am a native of Ohio,
born in Akron, but have lived all over
the country, including Delaware,
Arizona, California, Pennsylvania, and
Texas. A graduate of the University of
Arizona, I have a Bachelor’s of Science
in Chemical Engineering. I entered the
ministry right out of college serving as
a youth pastor in Palm Desert, CA for
three years. During that time I
discerned a call to ordination and set
out for Trinity School for Ministry in
Ambridge, PA to pursue a Master’s of
Divinity. While in seminary I met my
wife, Amy. We were married in 2006 and
we have a son, David, who is almost 18
months old.
Amy and I enjoy being
outdoors, cooking, traveling, and
spending time with friends. I am a movie
buff, play guitar, and have been known
to brew my own beer from time to time.
I am looking forward to
getting to know you all as we begin this
new season of ministry at St. George’s.
Yours in Christ,
Ben
